Movers4Melbourne is a local removalist working in Preston and right across Melbourne’s northern suburbs. We run out of 7/85 Cooper Street, Campbellfield, so Preston is a short run down the road for us rather than a cross-town trip.

Preston is in the City of Darebin, postcode 3072, and it has changed a lot in the last decade. That shows up in the jobs we get called to:
A full house move in Preston is largely priced by how much of it has to travel up or down stairs. A single-storey bungalow on a side street with a driveway is the quickest kind of job we do, and the 4.5 tonne truck with two movers, from $55 per half hour, handles most two and three bedroom homes. A three-storey townhouse with the bedrooms at the top takes longer for the same amount of furniture, because every wardrobe and mattress makes the trip down the internal stairs by hand.
For a larger home, or one with a garage and a shed to clear as well, the 6.5 tonne truck with two movers, from $60 per half hour, saves a second trip. Furniture blankets, trolleys and straps come with the truck, every job is fully insured, and the hourly rate is confirmed with you before we start rather than worked out on the day. Our house removals page covers the full service.
A good share of our Preston calls are one or two items rather than a whole household: furniture collected from Northland or from a seller on a side street, a couch going into a High Street apartment, a fridge coming out of a townhouse, or one bedroom’s worth of furniture after a share-house change.
For loads that size the van and man rate, from $40 per half hour, is usually the cheapest way to do it, on the same upfront hourly basis as a full move. Tell us what the item is, which floor it is on and whether there is a lift — a two-seater down one flight is a very different job from a three-seater down three. See furniture removals, man with a van and, for pianos, piano moving.
We are a removals company rather than a packing company: we do not pack your belongings into boxes for you and we do not offer storage. If you are packing yourself, we sell boxes and packing supplies in our shop.
Photos of the access at both ends are genuinely useful. Send them straight to us on WhatsApp.
Preston is a mix of older weatherboard homes, post-war brick, and newer townhouses and apartments around the station and the Preston Market end of High Street. That mix is why two moves in the same suburb can go very differently, and it is worth checking a few things before you book anyone.
The practical problems in Preston are local ones: the tram line and clearway restrictions along High Street, the traffic on Bell Street at the wrong time of day, and the narrow rear lanes behind a lot of the older housing stock. A removalist who works the northern suburbs regularly will ask you about access before quoting rather than discovering it on the day. We have been working Preston and the suburbs around it since 2014, from our base a short run north in Campbellfield.
On an hourly rate, a truck that is too small is the most expensive thing that can happen to you, because a second trip costs far more than the bigger vehicle would have. Tell us what is in the garage and the shed as well as the house. We run a van and man from $40 per half hour, a 4.5 tonne truck and two movers from $55 per half hour, and a 6.5 tonne truck and two movers from $60 per half hour, and we would rather send the right one the first time.
Our hourly rates are given upfront, and furniture blankets, trolleys and straps are supplied with every job rather than charged as extras. Ask any removalist you are comparing whether the same is true of theirs, and when their clock starts and stops.
If you are moving into or out of an apartment near the station, the building manager may ask to see public liability cover before the lift can be booked. We are fully insured and can explain what applies to your move — there is more on our removals insurance page.
We do not offer a packing service and we do not run a storage facility. We move what is already boxed, and we sell the boxes and packing supplies through our shop if you need them. Knowing that now is better than finding out on the morning.
We have written a longer, Melbourne-wide version of this checklist — including the fifteen questions worth asking and the warning signs to walk away from — in our guide to questions to ask a removalist before you book.
Preston is one of our busiest areas, along with Reservoir, Coburg and Brunswick. Our depot is in Campbellfield, a short run north. We also cover the western, eastern, south-eastern and inner-city suburbs and regional Victoria. Not sure whether we come to you? Ask us.
