What affects how long a furniture move takes
We charge by the hour, so the things that slow a job down are the things that add to the cost. Telling us about them when you book means the price we quote is the price you pay.
- Stairs and lifts. A third-floor walk-up takes longer than a ground-floor unit. If the building has a lift, let us know whether it needs to be booked.
- Parking and carry distance. How close the truck can get to the door matters, especially on narrow streets or in apartment car parks with low clearance.
- Dismantling and reassembly. Beds, dining tables and flat-pack wardrobes all take time to take apart and put back together.
- Number and size of items. One couch is a different job from a full lounge room and three bedrooms.
- Distance between addresses. Travel time between the pick-up and the drop-off is part of the job.
Getting your furniture ready for moving day
A little preparation keeps the hourly clock down and your furniture in better shape.
- Empty drawers and cupboards. Loaded furniture is heavier, harder to carry safely and more likely to be damaged.
- Measure doorways, hallways and stairwells for anything large. It is better to know before the day that a wardrobe will not fit through a door.
- Defrost and dry out the fridge or freezer the day before, and disconnect the washing machine.
- Keep screws, bolts and fittings from anything dismantled in a labelled bag.
- Clear a path from each room to the front door, and move rugs, pot plants and shoes out of the way.
- Decide where each piece goes in the new place before we arrive. It saves carrying the same item twice.

How much does it cost to move furniture?
We charge by the hour and confirm our rate upfront. The number of items, access and distance all affect the total.
Our starting rates are a van and man from $40 per half hour, a 4.5 tonne truck and two movers from $55 per half hour, and a 6.5 tonne truck and two movers from $60 per half hour. Furniture blankets, trolleys and straps are included. See our removalist prices page for what each option suits.
